Hernandez-Johnson
Blinsky-Huck
Together with their family and friends, Jena Huck and Matthew Blinsky were married August 24, 2013 at Holy Family Parish in Yakima, Washington with a reception immediately following at the historic Modern Living Building at the Fairgrounds.
Jena is the daughter of Troy and Lona Huck of Naches, Washington. Matthew is the son of Floyd and Pam Blinsky of Yakima, Washington.
Jena’s wedding party included Jordan Huck, sister of the bride, as maid-of-honor and bridesmaids were Kari Sheppard, Savannah Hoke, Cece Nixon, Mandy Mortimer, Katie Klein, Darrien Gillespie, Taylor and MaKenzie Monson. The flower girl was Keeley Joslin, cousin of the bride.
Matthew’s wedding party included Andrew Wolbach, as best man and the groomsmen were Kenny Cummings, Travis Kushner, Matt Hawkins, Dalton Huck, brother of the bride, Buck Nopp, Ryan and Greg Blinsky, brothers of the groom. The ring bearer was Braydon Joslin, cousin of the bride and the usher was Peyton Poulsen, cousin of the groom.
Following a honeymoon to France and Italy, the newlywed couple is at home in Yakima. The bride is currently employed by Yakima Valley Farm Worker’s Clinic and the groom is employed by Floyd Blinsky Trucking Inc.
Nieman – 50 years
Bryce and Carolyn (Green) Nieman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary December 20, 2013. The couple will have an early celebration with a Hawaiian-themed reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Naches, WA.
Their children and grandchildren invite all family and friends of the couple to share in their celebration.
Bryce and Carolyn were married in a civil ceremony December 20, 1963 in Grantsville, Utah and a year later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They have lived in the Yakima Valley for all their married lives. Bryce retired after 25 years from AT&T and bought Dependable Ladder and Garage Door. Carolyn was a busy homemaker to their four children. They also farmed a cherry orchard for many years. They both enjoy spending time with family and friends and church activities.
Their four children are Brian Nieman and wife, Michelle, Stanwood, WA; Brent Nieman and wife, Vicki, Benton City, WA; Brean Cassidy and husband, Eric, Davenport, WA; and Brad Nieman, Yakima, WA.
They have 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Dorais-Sherman
Kristen Sherman, daughter of Don and Cheryl Marihugh, Darrington, WA and Robert Dorais, son of David and Dana Dorais, Harrah, WA, were hitched at the beautiful Springwood Ranch in Thorp, WA in the afternoon of June 15, 2013.
They exchanged vows in the presence of their closest family and friends.
The couple is currently residing in Sedro Woolley, WA and plan on honeymooning to Mexico on their one year anniversary.
Ramirez – 40 years
Oscar and Alma Ramirez will celebrate their 40 wedding anniversary. They were married on October 6th 1973 in a little chapel in Reno, Nevada.
Oscar is retired from the construction business and Alma is a teacher for the Yakima School District.
They both enjoy nature walks, family gatherings, reading, and listening to music of all genres.
The couple has three children. Autumn Mansfield (Rob); Stevan Ramirez (Maggie) both of Yakima, Washington, and Marcos (Megan) Ramirez of Bothell, Washington.
They also have seven grandchildren of whom they are very proud.
]A small celebration is planned by their chil-dren. A future trip to Las Vegas will take lace in November.
Triplett-Staudinger
Katie Scarlett Staudinger and Andrew Paul Triplett celebrated their marriage June 1, 2013 at The Saywer House of Yakima after having eloped on July 22, 2012 in Seattle, WA.
The bride is the daughter of Karl and Marilyn Staudinger of Yakima. The groom is the son of John and Joan Triplett of Sun Lakes, Arizona.
Joelle (Staudinger) Loveless, Tara (Staudinger) Curfman, and Christine Whiteside were matrons and maid of honor and Jon Augustavo was Best Man. Other members of the wedding party included Sarah Mount, Courtney Groszhans, Kaitlyn Whiteside, Anna Gullickson, Corey Dugan, Nicole (Triplett) Youngren, Dave Myers, Eric Englund, Patrick Cahill, Corey Rutledge, Nick Augustavo, Derek Long, and Max Greer.
The bride is a scheduler for Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, WA, while the groom is employed with Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinics as the Clinic Manager of Valley Vista Medical Group in Prosser, WA.
The couple is at home in Kennewick, WA.
Pigion – 65 years
John and Elaine Pigion were married at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Yakima on September 19, 1948.
Their sons and their wives, Richard and Joan, and David and Gail, hosted their 65th wedding anniversary celebration with a family visit to Whidbey Island.
Yakima has been the Pigion’s home since 1950. John retired from the Yakima Hardware Company in 1988 and Elaine retired from the Yakima School District in 1990.
Haas – 50 years
Richard (Dick) A. Haas and Carol D. Groszhaus were married October 12, 1963, at Central Lutheran Church in Yakima. They met in a little cafe in Ashley, ND, on December 22, 1961, while waiting out a snowstorm.
Richard graduated from college in May of 1962 and came to Yakima within two weeks to attend Carol’s high school graduation. He moved to Seattle to work, and Carol went to a business college in Spokane to study accounting. She finished courses there and moved to Seattle to work for Tradewell Stores. After their marriage, they spent another year in Seattle before moving to Yakima and settling on the orchard-farm near Wapato, purchased, from her parents. They lived there for 35 years raising two children, Richard (Rick) Scott Haas and Ranie Lynn Haas.
They moved to Vancouver, WA, in 2001 and lived there for 10 years before returning home and retiring in Yakima. They now live in Terrace Heights.
They will celebrate their anniversary with a trip to San Antonio, TX — a gift from their children Rick and wife Shawnie, and Ranie and husband George Schlotter.
They have four “perfect” grandsons: Sterling, John, Jacob and Reagan.
Pannell – 60 years
Bud Pannell and Cecilia (Mailloux) Pannell were married at St. Paul’s Catholic Cathedral October 10, 1953. This all started when Cecilia asked Bud to be her senior prom date in 1951. From then on she knew he was the one.
Bud retired from Boise Cascade after forty-one years. Cecilia retired from the Selah School District after having enjoyed her many years of tutoring young students in the reading program at John Campbell Elementary School.
Like most parents, Bud and Cecilia’s lives to a great degree centered around raising their three sons: Mike (Olympia), Steve (Selah), and Jeff (Siri) (Redmond). Attending sporting events, family vacations and just spending time together are some of their fondest memories. Their current time together are some of their fondest memories. Their current focus and joy can be found when being with their three grandchildren: Chris, Aniston and Audrina, and three great-grandchildren: Kaiden and twin girls Payton and Mackenzie.
The couple plans to celebrate their anniversary at an upcoming dinner with their family at the Space Needle in Seattle and a trip to Hawaii in the spring — if they can be talked into it by their family.
Walker-Ferguson
Miss Janelle Joyce Walker is pleased to announce the engagement of her mother, Jaclyn Joyce Walker to Trevor Darwin Ferguson.
Jaclyn is the daughter of Jeffrey Walker of Toppenish and Harry and Jeanne Smiskin of Wapato. Trevor is the son of Tracy and Penie Ferguson of Othello.
The bride-to-be is a homemaker and the groom-to-be is employed with Les Schwab Tires.
A May 2014 wedding is being planned.
Schactler – 65 years
John R. “Dick” and Carolyn Schactler of Yakima celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a summer picnic at Clear Lake surrounded by three generations of loving family.
The couple met as music majors at Washington State College (now WSU), and were married August 22, 1948 in Puyallup, Washington.
After Mr. Schactler completed a master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music, the couple returned to the Yakima Valley where Mr. Schactler taught band in Selah, Grandview, Tacoma, and Yakima, including Eisenhower High School. He played principal trumpet in the Yakima Symphony for 40 years and led the Sophisticated Swing jazz big band for many years. He also directed the Yakima Valley Community Band from 1987-2007.
Mrs. Schactler reared six children and substituted as a classroom teacher in the Yakima public schools. She taught sewing and violin lessons and created custom clothing for clients. She returned to Central Washington University and earned a master’s degree. There she founded a nationally recognized apparel design and construction program. She won several grand prize awards from the International Textiles and Apparel Association and her work at the university was recognized with the Distinguished Professor award for research in 1996.
The couple’s contributions to the Yakima Valley arts community were honored with the Larson Gallery’s annual Arts Award in 2012.
The Schactlers have six children: Fred Schactler of Issaquah; John Schactler and David Schactler of Eatonville; Laura Schactler of Selah; Linda Schactler of Ellensburg; and Bruce Schactler of Kodiak, Alaska.
They also have 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

ALYSSA DIDN’T KNOW HOW HER WEDDING TO ZACH MAUCH was going to turn out. Zach’s uncles, Brennan and Wes, were in charge of all the decorations, and she was nervous. But when she saw what they did, she says, “it was just perfect and I wouldn’t have changed one thing!” Alyssa has three fathers — her biological father, an ex-step-father and her current step-father. Since she’s close with all three, one of her most cherished memories is dancing with them all. “Not everyone is lucky to have three dads like me,” she says.

Ballinger – 50 years
Dave and Maxine Ballinger were married August 23, 1963 at the First Reformed Church in Moxee, WA.
They have resided in Grandview for the past 39 years.
Dave retired as CEO of Lower Valley Credit Union in Sunnyside, WA. Maxine has been a hair-dresser for 48 years and currently works at New Refl ections Salon in Grand-view.
They are actively involved in the Bethany Presbyterian Church and enjoy traveling and spending time at their cabin on Chinook Pass.
They have three children, Jodi Nordstrom (David), Jeff Ballinger (Ashlee) and Jason Ballinger (Kim); five grandchildren, Josh
Nordstrom, Sara Nordstrom, Karli Ballinger, Brandon Moen-Ballinger and Trenton Ballinger.

Dailey – 60 years
Roy and Barbara Dailey will celebrate their 60th anniversary. After being high school sweethearts, Roy Dailey and Barbara Cowgill were married July 31st, 1953 in Wapato, WA.
Roy retired from The Yakima Herald-Republic after 43 years. Barbara is best known for her cooking, as she, Roy and their kids owned Lindy’s Mexican Restaurant for 22 years, where many employees and customers became like family to them.
Roy and Barbara were blessed with three children; Don (Sally) Dailey, from Indiana, Dorene (Marty) from California, and Debbie (Kevin) Moody from Yakima. Again blessed with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
They love being snowbirds, spending cold winters in Hemet, CA and doing a lot of square dancing then returning home to spend hot summers in Yakima.
A family get together is planned in the winter to celebrate their 80th B-days and 60 years together.
Parmentier – 40 years
Priscilla (Fischer) and Donald Parmentier married on July 29, 1973 at Immaculate Conception Parish in Roslyn, WA.
Priscilla and Don married just seven months after meeting at the Bamboo Broiler in downtown Cle Elum, WA on Christmas Day, 1972.
Priscilla was accompanying her sister and brother-in-law who were bored at home and Don was equally bored at home. To this day, neither enjoys the bar scene, but clearly this one bar visit was predestined.
Despite the short courtship, Don and Priscilla have enjoyed a long and happy marriage full of love and companionship. Shortly after they married, they moved to Yakima, where they have lived since.
Priscilla spent 27 years teaching in the Toppenish and Wapato school districts. Don spent more than three decades working in the fruit industry, most recently working as facilities manager at Valicoff Fruit Co. in Wapato before retiring in Nov. 2011.
In retirement, they have enjoyed spending time with family and each other, staying involved at St. Paul Cathedral Parish, working around the house and their garden and pursuing other hobbies such as baking (Priscilla) and woodworking (Don).
They have one son, Jerome Parmentier, who works at Yakima Federal Savings and Loan Association in Yakima. He is married to Mai Hoang Parmentier, a reporter at the Yakima Herald-Republic.
Don and Priscilla also have four cats they lovingly call “the kids.”
Per their love for simple pleasures, Priscilla and Don celebrated their 40th anniversary with a home-cooked meal and an ice cream cone with their son and daughter-in-law.
Carpenter – 50 years
Larry and Diane Carpenter are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Diane Gangwish and Larry Carpenter were married August 17, 1963 at St. James Francis in North Hollywood, CA.
In 1981, they moved to the Yakima Valley. Larry began his career at Keelers Medical Supplies as a rehab technician. He continues his work there. Diane began and maintains an in-home child care business. The couple have 5 children, Dave (Mary-Kathleen) Carpenter, Dennis (Jennifer) Carpenter, Diana Carpenter, Debi (Brent) Scribner and Jordan (Dale) Kring, all residing in Yakima.
They also have 13 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter expected in September.
Their family is hosting a celebration August 17, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Gangwish Ranch, 22702 Ahtanum Road, Yakima WA, 98908. All family and friends are welcome.
Herold – 50 years
July 27th marked the 50th anniversary of marriage for George and Diana (Kincaid) Herold of Benton City, WA. They were married in Grandview, Washington on July 27, 1963 in the Grandview Christian Church.
George and Diana are recently retired from farming, after being involved with their farming business for over 50 years. They have two daughters, Kathy (Ken) Johnson of Zillah, and Eva (Eric) Lindstrand also of Zillah. They have five grandchildren, Kasey, Kody, and Kalen Johnson, and Kaia and Lia Lindstrand.
They will be celebrating their anniversary with a family trip to Winthrop, WA in August.
Nelson-Voorhees
Scott Nelson and Jennifer Voorhees were married April 13, 2013, at Fontaine Estates Winery in Naches. A dinner reception immediately followed.
The groom is the son of Lynn and John Beam of Yakima and Mike and Evelyn Nelson of Goodyear, Arizona. The bride is the daughter of Jack and Peggy Voorhees of Selah. The wedding party included Trevor Kaple of Birmingham, Alabama, as best man and Julie Stiegelmeyer of Yukon, Oklahoma, as matron of honor.
The groom graduated from West Valley High School and Central Washington University with a BA in Political Science. He is employed at Graphic Label in Yakima. The bride graduated from West Valley High School and Southern Nazarene University with a BA in Spanish Education. She also completed an MA in Spanish at California State University Sacramento. She is a teacher at West Valley High School.
After a honeymoon to Maui the couple is now at home in Yakima.
Brown-Trujillo
Doug and Bev Brown of Yakima are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Erin M. Brown to Michael A. Trujillo. He is the son of Jack and Chris Trujillo of Graham, WA.
The bride-to-be is a graduate of West Valley High School. She is currently a Registered Nurse at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
The groom-to-be graduated from Bethel High School in Graham, WA. He is a full time fire-fighter for the City of Yakima.
An August 31st wedding is planned at The Sawyer House of Yakima.

Jim and Dianne Harris are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Craig Harris to Rebecca Loberg, daughter of Tom and Kim Loberg of Butte, Montana.
Craig Harris is a graduate of East Valley High School and Whitworth University. He is employed with Western Sweet Cherry.
Rebecca Loberg is a graduate of Butte High School and Carroll College of Helena, MT. She is employed by Creekside Physical Therapy.
The couple will be married on August 24th at the White Pass Ski Resort.
